New command vehicle for the Lohmann and Lohmann & Rauscher plant fire brigade

"Actually, as firefighters, we are used to going into action shoulder to shoulder - that's practically part of our DNA! Today, I ask you for the necessary distance", said René Fallait, main fire chief and head of the plant fire brigade of Lohmann and Lohmann & Rauscher, when welcoming his comrades and guests to the ceremonial handover of the new command vehicle.

2020_ELW_links.jpgThe plant fire brigade of Lohmann and L&R is responsible for the joint plant premises at the Neuwied-Feldkirchen site and consists of 35 employees of both companies, who work here in addition to their main activities.

The Corona pandemic had caused a delay in delivery at the beginning of March – and thus created impatient anticipation for the mobile operations center. This did not even stop for Lohmann's managing partner Dr. Jörg Pohlman: "I am delighted to be able to hand over this high-tech vehicle to the highly committed plant fire brigade today! With this investment, we are also making a significant contribution to protecting our colleagues at the site".

The guest of honor Dr. Peter Barth (former managing director of Lohmann) also joined in, recalling anecdotes about the purchase of the first motorized command and control vehicle – including a trailer ladder, which the member of the Lohmann founding family had climbed despite it swaying alarmingly at the time.

The plant fire brigade, founded in 1934, now has, in addition to a fire engine, an equipment vehicle for hazardous goods and the "old" emergency command vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter with the latest technology at its disposal for its operations: two workstations with internet access, telephony as well as analogue and digital radio technology, which enable communication with external forces such as the public fire brigade, the rescue service as well as with the rescue control center in Montabaur and other emergency response authorities directly from the scene of the emergency. Tools for the documentation and risk assessment of the operations as well as measurement technology for chemical detection (e.g. gas detection devices) are included. "An additional feature: The new vehicle also provides us with material for traffic safety – because often our work does not stop at the boundaries of the plant premises," says René Adams, deputy head of the fire brigade.

In addition to the commissioning of the new command and control vehicle, the departure of two comrades was also honored, who have rendered outstanding services to the plant fire department for a total of 65 years: “Brandmeister” (fire chief rank) Diethelm Becker and “Löschmeister” (fire chief rank) Volker Dierdorf.

We congratulate our colleagues on this new acquisition and thank them for their commitment – around the clock, 365 days a year!
