Lohmann at techtextil 2019

After a successful first appearance at the techtextil 2017 in Frankfurt am Main, the „Bonding Engineers“ of Lohmann are back again this year. At booth D69 in hall 3.0 the company with headquarters in Neuwied will present innovative bonding solutions for the textile industry. They cover various applications and fields.

Reliable textile bonding and smart processes with Lohmann products

Novel and highly demanding requirements for the joining and combining of textiles keep posing new challenges for the textile industry. Lohmann’s “Bonding Engineers” offer ideal technologies as solutions to these bonding challenges. It is possible to realize durable and strong textile joints as well as tailor-made and even functionalized solutions.

Whether it is about quick processing textile die-cuts or pre-applied adhesive components, efficiency and innovation can be realized in a smart and reliable way while avoiding e.g. complex sewing processes.

Functional work wear and protective equipment based on functional materials like softshell fabrics such as jackets and coats pose the problem of repair if the fabric is pierced. Repair by sewing is problematic from the visual impression as well as from a performance perspective. To restore the water tightness of the fabric and offer a nice visual appearance a bonded patch makes the difference.

Lohmann’s almost invisible repair patch technology offers a high water tightness, washing resistance and long term durability. It can be combined with almost all fabrics and non-wovens.

In most continuous roll-to-roll processes it is almost inevitable to perform splicing of the web. Classical joining techniques are most often visible from both sides and hence often interfere with a class A surface appearance or the mechanical strength is weak and the splice shows high elongation in downstream production steps.

With latently reactive polyurethane films from Lohmann’s DuploTEC®SBF range it is possible to perform a seamless splice which is almost invisible from the A side. In addition, it is possible to create very stiff splices which can withstand high web tensions and offer superior stiffness and long term durability.

For high performance sails it is fundamental to reduce shifting of the seams. Especially sewed seams can lead to a performance loss of the sail due to shape changes. Latently reactive polyurethane films from Lohmann’s DuploTEC®SBF range offer superior stiffness and long term durability. The products from the PU-Film range are especially well suited for reinforcements on the sail tips or for use in the laminate. Since sewing gets totally obsolete the sail cloth is no longer perforated by the sewed seam.

High-tenacity ripstop fabrics based on polyamide and polyester are used in production of tents, kites and paragliders. Classical sewed seams pose a potential weak point in the fabric by piercing it. With latently reactive polyurethane films from Lohmann’s DuploTEC®SBF range the sewed seam can be completely replaced by a fast, easy and reliable bonding step.

Polyurethane based adhesive films from the Lohmann DuploTEC® SBF range offer a superior performance in bonding of high performance fibres. These latently reactive adhesive films work very well for hard and soft ballistic applications and can easily be introduced into existing processes. Furthermore, they can be combined with a wide variety of textile fabrics based on aramid, high-density polyethylene, carbon fibres and similar. At the same time easy, reliable and durable bonds can be achieved on other materials such as plastics, metals and ceramics.

In the field of protective clothing, the requirements for adhesive bonds of high-tech textiles are particularly high. They have to withstand extreme loads without affecting the functionality of the textile: For example, they have to be flame-retarding, waterproof or breathable. At this, classic joining methods such as sewing encounter their limits and significantly damage the fabric’s functionality and, thus, safety by perforating it. An additional step, seam-sealing, is necessary. This can be avoided by joining with the latent-reactive polyurethane films of Lohmann’s DuploTEC® SBF range. They provide extremely durable and resistant bonds offering maximum aging and temperature resistance to protective clothing. The bonding process itself is quick, easy as well as dimensional precise, and suitable for the combination of most varied fabrics.
